Savouring the essence of summer all year round is a dream for many. Imagine basking in the earthen glow complemented by citrus accents, surrounded by palm trees, and nestled in a tiered seaside escape in Sydney's Northern Beaches. This idyllic retreat captures the carefree spirit of sun-dappled adventures along remote Mexican shores while incorporating the refinement reminiscent of the Côte d'Azur. Designed by the esteemed YSG Studio, this revitalised residence invites you to immerse yourself in a world of mesmerising beauty, where every detail has been carefully curated to create a truly captivating and enchanting living space.

The clients, busy professionals from Sydney, acquired this holiday house with the intention of spending quality time with their young family. They sought to strike a balance between working from home and enjoying extended breaks during vacation periods. However, the residence, built in the early 2000s, required a significant revitalisation as its weathered features and clichéd seaside themes hindered their visits. Inspired by rustic Ibiza beach clubs and the rendered coastal resorts of Cancun, the clients envisioned a playful atmosphere that would foster perennial entertaining and provide a comforting retreat both indoors and outdoors.

During the external transformation, the primary goal was to eliminate distractions and create a seamless connection between the living areas and the breathtaking surroundings. To achieve this, the heavy paving and weathered timber surrounding the pool and balcony were replaced with lighter materials, instantly illuminating the space. Additionally, a new BBQ area and a re-clad boundary wall adorned with checkered tumbled marble cobblestones brought a captivating Mexican foundation to the design. The aged timber furniture underwent a rejuvenating update, featuring inviting ginger shades and adorned with plush upholstered cushions. Completing the outdoor oasis, the addition of plump rounded armchairs, vibrant side tables, and nostalgic black and white striped awnings infused the space with undeniable character.

YSG Studio embarked on a remarkable interior transformation, breathing new life into the space. By replacing windows and doors, an abundance of natural light now floods the interiors, creating an inviting and airy atmosphere. The worn timber floorboards were expertly sanded back, revealing the warm and alluring timber accents. Extensive renovations revitalised the bathrooms, while selective updates in the kitchen introduced new joinery and a striking stone island bench that evokes the vibrant hues of a tequila sunrise.

The living room's painting served as a captivating muse, influencing the home's overall tonal scheme and ambiance through its integrated colours and motifs. Above the dining table, raffia pendants gracefully hang, reminiscent of stylish sombrero hats, while playful pineapple prints bring vibrancy to the lounge cushions. Checkerboard patterns, mirroring the painting's boarder, extend onto the neutral living room walls leading to the dining area. In the sunroom, a carefully curated collection of decor presents checkered painting amidst a blend of geometric shapes and rippled contours. Meticulously selected fabrics from Think Positive's archives bring an eclectic charm, with patterns ranging from spirited rodeo cowboys to clusters of clay urns and rippled teal zebra stripes, enhancing the space with their lively presence.

The transformation of this seaside escape has transcended its former weathered state and clichéd seaside themes. Inspired by the beauty of remote Mexican shores and the refinement of the Côte d'Azur, the revitalised residence now offers a year-round haven for the busy Sydney professionals and their young family. With its mesmerising views, kaleidoscope of materials, and carefully curated elements, this tiered sanctuary invites soft landings and carefree entertaining, capturing the essence of summer in every season.
