Words by Nathalie from Nathalie Scipioni Architects

About Nathalie Scipioni Architects

Internationally trained and experienced in architecture, interior design, and heritage restoration, the team at Nathalie Scipioni Architects combine contemporary European influences with a restorer’s eye for detail, story, flow, and possibility.

Why did you choose architecture as a career?

Since I was 16, I always knew I wanted to be an architect. I stayed focused on that. I was always very artistic and visual. It was a dream of mine to one day design my own house for myself and my family. And very gratefully, I ended up completing my dream.

I completed a Doctor of Architecture in Florence at Universita degli Studi di Firenze, followed by post-graduate studies in heritage architecture at the specialist École de Chaillot in Paris.

Since I started architecture, it’s been my only career path, and I love it. What I create makes people feel happy, and it creates emotions. That's what gives me the purpose. To do what I do and see that come to life.

Where was your first architecture job?

My first architectural job was as a student in Paris, I worked for an architect, and he was designing homes. It was pretty exciting. I remember him showing me the house he had designed with so much passion. He was a one-person business throughout the whole process. I will never forget this experience. The fact that it was a small company made me learn the most; I believe working in a small firm will expose you to every aspect of a business and the process of designing a home.

What is the best piece of advice you could give to job seekers who are currently looking/applying for roles?

The best piece of advice I would give to a job seeker currently looking to apply for a new role would be to stay humble and be honest about yourself and your experience. Show that you are eager to learn. Show your personality through your passion for architecture.

What is the biggest mistake you see applicants make with their job applications?

I don't know if there is any particular mistake that applicants make. I appreciate it when candidates are honest about their experience and knowledge. I am more impressed when people are willing to learn about the job role and business instead of putting their needs first. I also admire when applicants show a strong work ethic and the initiative to take the next step before I even have to ask them.
