Kasa Byron beachside accommodation is designed to welcome groups of 2-3 families looking to holiday together, and built to accommodate up to 14 guests. The generous double-storey home really has it all. The home boasts 6 bedrooms, each complete with its own ensuite and outdoor retreat - be it a balcony, deck or courtyard - to promote privacy and relaxation. Each bedroom suite has been thoughtfully and cleverly designed to be adapted and can suit all-adult groups as well as families with children.
However, when connection and entertaining are on the cards, the home beckons guests to socialise in its open plan kitchen, dining and living room, as well as new heated mineral pool, which comes complete with a 1.7m Baja shelf that doubles as a place to lounge, as well as to play. The home also features luxuries like a large media room, infrared sauna as well as gym and fitness equipment.
The stunning holiday accommodation, designed by SpaceStudio, took the place of an older, Tuscan-inspired build on the property. Although owners Jerrie and Michael loved the previous home, they knew the stunning site was deserving of a home that matched. Having been inspired by the nearby work of SpaceStudio, Jerrie and Michael reached out to Sarah Aldridge and Jason Trisley and the design-process began in mid-2019.
The brief was clear - a holiday home for 2 to 3 families, that equally prioritised connection as well as privacy. "There needed to be spaces where everyone could gather, but also areas to retreat to," said Jerrie. This was facilitated by ensuring all bedrooms had private outdoor access, via either a balcony, courtyard or deck. The clients were also eager to stay true to the original home's layout, which featured a central hall, generous bedrooms and connection to the outdoors that Jerrie and Michael adored. "Having used the old house for many years we had lots of ideas about what would enhance the new one," said Jerrie. Throughout the design process they were passionate about utilising durable materials and furnishing the house with as many pieces by Australian designers as possible.
From the street, the house appears as a single-storey residence, with a timber garage and complimentary hand cut stone wall. "We used timber on the garage so that it had a certain gentleness and didn’t completely dominate the view from the street," says Sarah. From the rear, the home's second storey is visible, and finished in a white render. Material choices were made with the home's beachside context in mind, ensuring all choices were durable and able to withstand the tough coastline conditions.

Inside the home, the upstairs bedrooms overlook the sprawling dunes and tuckeroo trees, and despite its impressive vistas, an equally generous 'second main' bedroom can be located on the ground floor of the home. "We were mindful that if two families were sharing the house, no one should feel like they were getting a 'lesser' room" says Jerrie. The brief was to design the bedrooms so that each one felt like its own mini retreat. Downstairs, a generous open plan living, dining and kitchen area features extravagantly oversized glass stacking doors, which facilitate connection between the interior and the outdoor landscape.

Amelia Wainwright, a stylist and designer for Mim Design, says the property's setting played a key role in the way the home was furnished. "The coastline influenced the colour palette of ocean blues and forest greens, encapsulating everything we love about Byron Bay". In keeping with Jerrie and Michael's request for a home filled with Australian designed and made items, Amelia specified furniture, sculptures and artwork from suppliers such as Jardan, Coco Flip, Volker Huag and Tigmi Trading. These selected items are scattered around the stunning residence, featured alongside Jerrie's own collection of embroidered artworks which depict the NSW coastline.
Kasa Byron is a beautiful holiday retreat that mingles family entertainment with relaxation and privacy. The stunning home echoes its equally beautiful setting along Tallows Beach at Suffolk Park, mimicking the blues of the ocean and the greens of the Tuckeroo trees through its materiality and furnishings.
