CM Studio are driven to create calm, refined homes that aim to elevate the everyday experiences of life. With a commitment to a exceptional client experience, the studio operates under a considered design process, ensuring each project is resilient and long-lasting. Blending light and landscape, indoors and outdoors and imbuing each space with a natural material palette, textures and tones to craft a harmonious and balanced backdrop within every space they design.
Situated in the eastern Sydney suburb of Bellevue Hill, Warren House is inspired by the client's love for modernism. The generous family home responds to the geographical context that envelopes it, integrating strong horizontal lines, large windowed walls for maximised views over the garden and an open-plan living space that rolls effortlessly outdoors. Natural materials and motifs, as well as expert craftsmanship throughout the home are characteristic not only of the early Modernist homes of Palm Springs that inspired the project, but equally so of CM Studios own ethos and design ideology.
The family home is nestled on an unusually wide site, resulting in a strong, linear street façade. The homes confident street presence is woven throughout the interior of the home, echoed through Warren House's careful and considered material palette. Comprised of stacked stone, a polished concrete floor, timber and bespoke steel elements and detailed with bronze and marble, the home boasts a luxurious and robust tactility both inside and out.
The footprint of the home was deliberately constructed to facilitate division and privacy between the various spaces of the home, executed through various level changes in the home. The living room rolls out onto the home's private oasis, complete with a custom-equipped deep stone terrace specified for entertaining. The residence is enveloped by lush gardens by The Garden Social in the rear and features a freeform swimming pool - an example of CM Studio's devotion to celebrating Australia's climate.
In keeping with CM Studio's ethos of prioritising spaces that are designed to stand the test of time, the home is equipped with several sustainable design features to benefit both the lives of the clients, and of the environment. Glazing on windowed walls allows for warmth and natural light to permeate the family home for natural thermal comfort. Outside, solar panels fixed to the rooftop harvest the abundant Sydney sunlight, whilst embedded rainwater tanks collect rainfall and reduce consumption.
Warren House is an ode to the modernist-era of Palm Springs abodes that hold a special place in the heart of the home's client. Elevated with a refined material palette and decisive floor plan to maximise family living and the sites obscure parameters. CM Studio once again delivers a space that balances materiality and tactility alongside functionality and sustainability to craft a residence that is both aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting.
