On the weekend of October 21st and 22nd, 2023, the Sunshine Coast Open House invites you to embark on an architectural journey, and the best part? It's completely free. This community-driven event offers a unique opportunity to explore the architectural wonders of the region. From cutting-edge modern homes to historic heritage treasures and innovative sustainable spaces, there's something for every architectural enthusiast.
While observing a structure from the outside is intriguing, Open House goes beyond by allowing access to the interiors, revealing the backstory, and providing the chance to meet the brilliant minds behind these masterpieces. Architects, builders, and conservationists will be present at various locations, sharing the captivating stories and inspirations that brought these creations to life.
What sets the Sunshine Coast Open House apart is its global connection. As a proud member of the Open House Worldwide network, this event is part of a commendable initiative that originated in London in 1992 and has since expanded to over 50 cities worldwide.
A Word from the Council
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson recently shared his insights on the event. "The community event aims to celebrate the region’s historic, contemporary, and sustainable buildings, as well as provide recognition to the design firms responsible for these innovative projects," he said.
“Our region is well known for its design and architecture,” Jamieson added. “From the coast to the hinterland, we have a history of great design that is acknowledged nationally and internationally. Sunshine Coast design celebrates the region’s unique history and architecture with built form that considers the local climate, prioritises indoor-outdoor living, and maximises living within the landscape. The Sunshine Coast Open House festival offers rare, behind-the-scenes access to the Sunshine Coast’s best buildings, including private homes, corporate buildings, heritage treasures, and sustainable spaces.”
The event's program is set to be officially launched by Queensland governor, Jeannette Young, at the Sunshine Coast City Hall.
