Perth-based Made Furniture is the passion project of Jason Newby, born from 13 years of experience in commercial and residential furniture. Made Furniture specialise in making custom furniture, alongside their designer-inspired ranges, for use in commercial and residential settings. Since its inception in 2017, Made Furniture has designed and manufactured each and every beautiful piece in Western Australia, ensuring the highest quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Working closely with local craftsman, Made Furniture offer custom pieces and full fit-outs for commercial projects to suit every unique space and style. This service has proved to be of particular interest to architects and designers in hospitality, education, office and retail sectors with Made's influence stretching far and wide. Their artistic and detailed work has grabbed the attention of many of WA's top design firms, such as Hames Sharley, MATA Design Studio and Work Shop Dine. Made's custom and bespoke works are recognisable across notable WA venues such as Rottnest Island, Gage Roads, Subiaco Hotel, Island Market, Miss Chows and FOMO.
Made's new and exciting range, focuses on sofas, occasional chairs and tables. Designed and developed in 2023 and released to the eager design market in September 2023, the collection showcases expert Australian design and offers clients beautiful pieces worthy of investment. Newby says "I'd always wanted to design my own range and last year was perfect timing to release it" - in the wake of Made's garnered success and recognition, particularly in WA's market. Many designers who frequently liaised with Newby and Made were "crying out" for a WA design brand they could support, and Jason says that thus far, "the support has been amazing".
The range was designed as a series of luxury pieces that could compete with Europeans brands and their design focus, comfort and quality. The sofas and occasional chairs, especially those in the Caline Range, draw inspiration from 1970's Italian design, featuring accentuated tubular curves and vintage inspired materials such as chenille and boucle. The range features unique silhouettes and drum bases to mimic the era of Italian design known for its decadence and ambience of embrace. Newby speaks of the range with a hint of theatricality, referring to the Caline range as the main character and the Bassa, Miles and La Mesa ranges as the supporting cast. The Caline range lives up to its role as the leading star; gathering significant attention and as a result being specified in offices, retail and bridal stores and homes across Australia.
Each of the upholstered ranges - Caline, Bassa and Miles - offer designers and clients the option to choose from a range of fabric and leather finishes, meaning every item reflects the individuality and style of its buyer. Likewise, the La Mesa range is available in multiple timber and stain options for designers and clients to decide between.
