Voco Melbourne Central, the newest addition to IHG Hotels & Resorts, is a much needed city retreat from the hustle of Melbourne's streets. Located within the iconic 380 Melbourne Skyscraper, this boutique hotel offered breathtaking panoramic views of the city and beyond with all the dining, lounge and conference facilities needed for a remote-work lifestyle. During the second week of June, CO-architecture hosted the Future of Work Melbourne event, bringing together prominent design professionals from across the city to envision what the future of architecture and design work might look like for the next generation of design professionals. Hybrid and remote work models emerged as a prominent topic, where the significance of design was no longer confined to traditional corporate offices. Instead, the focus was on creating experiences with unique spaces and places that prioritised amenity, lifestyle and wellbeing, making Voco the ideal place to explore the future of work and travel.
Voco's central location provides easy access to shopping malls like Emporium, Melbourne Central, and Bourke Street Mall, as well as a wide variety of dining options in Melbourne's magical laneways. Additionally, the tram is just minutes away, enabling us to explore the city at our own pace.
As we ventured towards Voco and Timothy Lane, the building maintained a subtle presence, fostering ample street-level interaction that extended Timothy Lane itself. This innovative design created a captivating café and dining pathway, seamlessly integrating with Melbourne's globally renowned laneway culture. Gazing upward, the 380 towers revealed themselves as graceful silver waves traversing the façade, while the building's interior design boasted an elegant rhythm and natural warmth. Each upward glance revealed the architectural design brought to life by the gifted local architects at Elenberg Fraser.
The moment we entered, we were embraced by an interior palette adorned with smoky blues, dove greys, and Voco's signature honey gold hue. This remarkable composition was a testament to the sheer brilliance of Suede Interior Design, who skilfully blended opulent elements with an ambiance that effortlessly radiated a sense of relaxation and informality. One of the remarkable aspects of our stay at Voco Melbourne Central was the genuinely warm and attentive staff. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction, making us feel truly welcomed.
The guest rooms were adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows, unveiling breathtaking vistas of the cityscape. Each morning, the sun-kissed horizon painted a mesmerizing backdrop, accompanied by the rhythmic symphony of urban life below. With their beautiful design and refined elegance, the rooms provided a serene and comfortable haven. The beds were exceptionally comfortable too, ensuring a restful and rejuvenating experience. For us, as business travellers, the accommodation was thoughtfully tailored to our needs. Ample power points and a well-appointed desk in the rooms made remote working comfortable and convenient. Additionally, the on-site meeting rooms, available for hire, accommodated a range of capacities, while the attentive front desk staff were always ready to assist with any copying, scanning, or printing needs.
The hotel's dedication to sustainability is evident in its "tread lightly" philosophy, which permeates every aspect of the guest experience. From the thoughtfully chosen bedding to the eco-friendly practices at the bar, Voco Melbourne Central goes above and beyond to minimize its environmental footprint and make a positive impact on the local community. During our stay, we had the peace of mind knowing that our comfort and enjoyment were aligned with a greater purpose.
