The Darling Edit sees the ambitious interior design fit out of a residential property in one of Sydney's most prestigious harbourside suburbs, Darling Point. The project was undertaken by Marylou Sobel Interior Design, one of Australia's premier interior designers with over 40 years of industry experience. Based in Sydney and rooted in a design philosophy that emphasises sophistication, comfort and meticulous attention to detail, Marylou Sobel Interior Design has grown from a home-based studio to a full-service boutique with a team of passionate and talented designers.

The Darling Edit is characterised by the blending of elegance and ease; a unique combination that creates an elevated, luxurious space that is equally relaxing and calm. The project exemplifies the core principles that underpin the work of Marylou Sobel Interior Design; timeless aesthetics and precise detailing, that result in spaces that evoke a sense of belonging and inspiration long into the future.

The existing space was in need of renovation in order to transform it into a sophisticated and relaxing residence. Under the guidance of Marylou Sobel Interior Design, the footprint was reimagined through the demolition of several internal walls in order to enhance natural flow and lighting. Additionally, soft curved joinery was integrated to soften the transition between living spaces, facilitating a seamless flow around the home.

The residents wanted to refresh the home's original aesthetic, unveiling a fresh layer of nuance and appeal, that felt like a soulful sanctuary. Functionality was crucial to both client and the design team, with clever hidden storage integrated throughout the space to not only improve everyday use but elevate the overall of the home. These careful changes not only balance the curated and considered aesthetics of the home with the functionality of everyday living but make light work of otherwise unglamorous everyday tasks.

This tone continues throughout the rest of the home, which manages to balance the elevated, sanctuary-like feel of the space alongside the requirements of everyday, modern life. In the living space, the television is artfully concealed behind elegant sliding doors, granting the space the power to transform seamlessly from tranquil retreat to lively family space; a space fit for reflection, or connection.

A commitment to a light and airy interior was facilitated not only structurally, but through materiality and colour. The project utilises raw, natural materials and authentic finishes, in line with the studio's ongoing design philosophy and aesthetics. Additionally, the Marylou and her team employs their signature light-filled, refreshing tones to maximise compact floor space and feel a subtle, elevated aesthetics throughout.

The Darling Edit is the result of Marylou Sobel Interior Design's thorough and tested design process, which begins with an initial consultation. This step allows the team to understand the brief, scope and budget of the project, as well as the clients lifestyle and aesthetic preferences. This design process establishes a foundational understanding of the clients that allows the studio to create a space that is unique, functional and authentic. The integration of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail is standard across all projects and showcases the studio's commitment to evoking luxurious ease.
