This rural retreat by Robertson Collectif endeavoured to play two distinct roles in the lives of its retiree homeowners - that of a quiet, relaxing getaway, and a bustling, functional family home. Structurally, the home features large living spaces that not only accommodate but encourage lively family gatherings, as well as quieter, more intimate moments in the smaller living spaces. The home represents a holistic approach to connection and community, complete with extensive landscaping works that allowed for the addition of multiple outdoor entertaining areas, a pool and a tennis court. The design of the home adheres to strict BAL flame zone requirements, meaning that materiality construction, fixtures and fittings are designed to minimise risk in the instance of a bushfire.

Brimar House by MODO

Brimar House by MODO is characterised by its striking visual exterior - robust brick walls, sweeping curved façade and undulating landscaping. The home, which spans 600m2 and two-and-a-half levels, is comprised of two linear wings with a unique curved corridor link. Whilst main living spaces are hidden behind the homes stand-out dark timber second-storey façade, the spaces around, between and underneath the house have been carefully designed and shaped to invite and encourage the homes residents to maximise their time outside. This connection to exterior is facilitated even inside the homes walls, as spaces curve around a central maple tree and bedrooms offer stunning views across the neighbouring golf course.

Australian beach shacks, a surf club, and Swedish Functionalism - three concepts that seem wildly distinct, and yet which marry beautifully in The Blairgowrie Beach Club by Bower Architecture & Interiors. Situated in the beach town of the same name, the Blairgowrie Beach Club is a stunning residence that encompasses the fun and nostalgia of Australian summer, year round. Although the home is designed ti accommodate several families and friends, the proportions of the home have been artfully constructed to retain warmth and intimacy, as well as fictional and adaptable when accommodating just the two homeowners. Australian timbers, brickwork, blockwork and granite define the homes aesthetic materiality, as well as ensure the home will withstand the coastal conditions of its location and patina gently and gracefully over the years. Fun additions like the vintage green hue in the mid-century kitchen and joinery detailing in the homes are unique elements inspired by the homeowner's Scandinavian upbringing.
