Two Blue Boys Furniture
Inspired by the coastal landscape he grew up in, David Steven of Two Blue Boys Furniture channels organic forms and vesicular texture into each piece he produces for the Yamba-based furniture company. From the erratic curvature of the choppy ocean, the windswept sand dunes and the eclectic variation of seaside shells and pebbles, each Two Blue Boys piece blends littoral-inspired sculptural significance with functionality.
Two Blue Boys combines an array of experience in woodworking, cabinetry and chair making to produce high-quality and considered pieces that reflect a lifetime of experiences - and have been designed to last through another. Bespoke designs that push the limitations of traditional design, ranging from unique dining tables to one-off bed frames, prioritising attention to detail. Two Blue Boys is driven by the philosophy that each piece tells a story - combining beauty, practicality and meaning - to craft furniture that are incredibly profound and purposeful.
"Each piece has a special meaning to me and can instantly recall a memory. Nearly all my pieces draw inspiration from somewhere I’ve visited in the past. It may have been a place I’ve frequented all my life or a beach I’ve spent an afternoon exploring." - David Stevens, of Two Blue Boys
Imbued with the mindful and attentive disposition of David, each Two Blue Boys Furniture piece oozes warmth, and aid in creating spaces that welcome the creation of memories. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, merging utility and functionality with unique aesthetic appeal.
The Benson Long Bench is characteristic of Two Blue Boys unique and evocative style. Constructed of locally sourced native silky oak, the bench features black-stained legs and rosewood inlay on the benches surface. Inspired by rock formations, the bench top has been carved with a vesicular, pitted texture to echo the eroding cliffside structures typical of a coastal landscape. The oak top features inlays and bowties for both structural and aesthetic considerations - adding further intrigue to the already eye-catching bench slab. Stained in a black finish, the bench legs juxtapose the dimpled bench top and melt into the background, allowing the signature pitted texture to remain the hero.
Drawing inspiration from the vesicular textures and organic forms native to the coastal landscape that raised David Steven, Two Blue Boys Furniture rejects the traditional limitations of woodwork and instead crafts evocative pieces that artfully combine utility and aesthetics.
