Hide and Seek Kangaroo Valley
Tucked away in the quiet Upper Kangaroo River area of Kangaroo Valley, the estate includes a main house, as well as a newly constructed barn at the rear of the property, lovingly nicknamed Nido, which is available to book separately or in addition to the main home.
This country retreat offers its guests the ultimate retreat; an opportunity to unwind amongst the remote escarpments of Kangaroo Valley and the abundance of natural wildlife native to the area. The central home is well suited to families (and your dog!), whilst the cabin at the rear of the property, Nido, serves perfectly as extra space for larger groups, or as a separate space for couples seeking a romantic getaway. The property can sleep 8 guests all together.
The home dates back to 1918, and has been carefully restored and renovated to suit the modern needs of its new guests. Voted as one of the best renovations in Home Design magazine, careful consideration was made to ensure the home maintained a balance of period features and modernised amenities. High ceilings, cornices, picture rails, decorative ceiling roses, timber windows and Huon pine were retained from the original structure, whilst a new extension saw the integration of contemporary furnishings and materials.
Constructed from concrete and recycled bricks and featuring black steel windows and recycled timber beams on the ceiling, the new additions to the home add a generous amount of space to the getaways floorplan and refresh the space, making it perfectly suited for lively families. The marriage between the gorgeous original details and the contemporary extension represents the essence of this escape.
Outside, an in-ground swimming pool, log-fire heated hot tub and abundant entertaining space welcome guests to indulge and unwind amongst the backdrop of the rugged Kangaroo Valley. With views of the incredible escarpment in front and of the rolling green paddocks to the rear, the property boasts panoramic views of the unique and raw Upper Kangaroo area.
The home also includes an outdoor fire put and undercover dining space, complete with a barbeque, so guests can make the most of the stunning landscape and NSW’s weather all year. Isolated and quiet, yet with a plethora of space to unwind and connect, this retreat delivers resort style relaxation in a unique location. Hide and Seek is only a 10-minute drive to the nearby village, and close to a variety of wedding locations.
The home features three bedrooms; one with a queen bed, one with a bunk bed and the master bedroom, with a king bed and adjoining ensuite. A shared bathroom retains its stunning period features and features a freestanding bath/shower, as well as a toilet. The majority of indoor entertaining takes place in the open plan living, dining and kitchen space. The kitchen is well equipped and generous and the living area opens up onto a breathtaking wraparound deck, via bi-folding glass doors, which frame the scenic landscape even when they’re closed.
Named after the Spanish word for "bird's nest," Nido draws its inspiration from a humble tin shed that once stood tucked away on the property. Embracing its rustic charm, the owner lovingly restored and transformed it into a cosy retreat that blends modern comforts with an authentic country ambiance. Every detail, from the carefully selected external materials to the thoughtfully curated interiors, reflects a deep respect for the property's heritage while ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests.
Hide and Seek Kangaroo Valley is the perfect hideaway for couples or families looking for a unique holiday space, set amongst the remote Upper Kangaroo River escarpments. Merging the delicate charm of a heritage home with the modern comforts of a contemporary renovation, the main house offers a refined yet welcoming retreat. Meanwhile, Nido pays homage to the rustic tin sheds that dot the surrounding landscape, embracing a raw, understated beauty. Together, these two distinct dwellings create a harmonious balance—where timeless character meets the convenience and spaciousness of a modern resort stay, offering guests a truly unique and charming escape.
