Originally crafted by the esteemed architects Daryl Jackson and Robin Dyke, Cedar Cabin draws inspiration from the iconic Sea Ranch in California, resulting in a harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape. The cabins gracefully embrace the land, delicately following the natural form of the Thredbo River. However, the interior of the cabin underwent a meticulous redesign to breathe new life into its timeless architecture. With meticulous attention to detail, the new interior was artfully curated to harmoniously complement and accentuate the captivating interplay between the raw and refined elements.

The meticulous redesign aimed to showcase the timeless allure of the space by thoughtfully featuring the exposed feature timbers, blackened steel accents, and the Japanese-inspired onsen bath. As a result, these elements exude the old-world charm and exquisite character, casting a radiant glow that envelops the space with an enchanting ambiance. A nod to the legacy of the Sea Ranch inspiration is found in a collaborative masterpiece, as Monique teamed up with artist Shal (Shaun Daniel Allen) to create a mesmerising mural on the loft wall. Shal's fluid, undulating shapes and expressive lines mirror the rhythmic flow of rivers and oceans, evoking a sense of tranquility and serenity.

Following its remarkable redesign in 2018, Cedar Cabin achieved a well-deserved position on the esteemed shortlist for the prestigious Australian Interior Design Award (AIDA) in 2019, standing as a testament to its exceptional residential design.

Monique Easton, a photographer, and design enthusiast, stands as the visionary driving force behind The Eastern, Thredbo Village brand, skill-fully breathing life into her creative vision with the creation of Cedar Cabin. As a devoted Thredbo skier and an ardent admirer of design and snow, Easton possesses an unwavering passion for the profound impact of exceptional design in elevating experiences and cultivating a profound connection with the outdoors.

Crafted with couples in mind, Cedar Cabin exudes an alluring aesthetic defined by clean lines and an understated colour palette, intentionally designed to accentuate the breathtaking vistas of Thredbo Resort and the majestic Mount Kosciuszko.

The transformation of the cabin's interior unfolds with an innovative spirit, starting with the kitchen area. Departing from the conventional L-shaped layout, a dynamic configuration takes center stage, featuring a 'dry' utility wall and a 'wet' island that cleverly incorporates a dining component. This design allows for the expansion of the kitchen during cooking, effortlessly dissembles when it's time to dine. Delicate perforations in the cabin's structure invite soft, dappled lighting, ensuring privacy while creating a captivating visual allure that sets it apart from neighbouring cabins.

In the washroom, guests are treated to a lavish bathing experience amidst glazed Japanese ceramics and polished cement sheeting that adorns the walls. The addition of a blackened steel shroud, echoing the folded steel detail found in the kitchen and loft credenza, infuses an element of sophistication and visual continuity throughout the cabin. Ascending to the loft area, a minimalist design ethos prevails, showcasing a bespoke bed and credenza.

Sustainability takes center stage as a fundamental consideration in this project. The design thoughtfully champions the local design industry by incorporating lighting fixtures and tap-ware. Moreover, an emphasis on green and non-disposable products, coupled with energy consumption offsetting, exemplifies the unwavering commitment to eco-friendly practices.
